- Scope: Updates are limited to PT and LLT levels—no new SOCs, HLGTs, or HLTs in this release.
- Change Requests: The Maintenance and Support Services Organization (MSSO) processed 1,412 change requests:
- Term Additions: Hundreds of new LLTs and PTs were added, particularly in “Investigations” and “Surgical and Medical Procedures,” reflecting advances in laboratory medicine and medical technology.
- SMQs: No new Standardised MedDRA Queries (SMQs) were introduced in 28.1; there remain 110 main SMQ topics, totaling 230 individual SMQs due to hierarchical structure.
- No Major Structure Change: Higher-level MedDRA structure (SOC, HLGT, HLT) remains unchanged.

- Main Focus Areas: The bulk of activity was on adding and updating terms related to laboratory investigations and new medical procedures.
- User Impact: Users are encouraged to review newly added terms when coding AEs, especially in areas subject to rapid advancement such as lab tests and interventional procedures.
- Next Steps: Updated Points to Consider (PtC) documents and training sessions are available to help users transition to 28.1.
